At Genie we have elected to capture all of the carbon from the manufacture and distribution of the paper, card and board that we use.
Woodland Carbon is an accredited, award-winning carbon removal scheme that is operated under the Government's 2011 Woodland Carbon Code.
The amount of CO2 generated in the production and delivery of our materials is calculated and we contribute to the
Woodland Trust who plant woodland at one of their accredited woodland creation sites in the UK.
BE AS GREEN AS YOU CAN • WE CAN ALL DO OUR BIT
As a DESIGN and PRINT consultancy we do consider protecting the environment to be a serious issue, as the use of paper and inks for standard printing can be very harmful. We are proud to state that all of our lithographic plate making equipment (CTP) is now chemical free and all of our paper and boards are supplied by registered and accredited
PEFC (Promoting Sustainable Forest Management) and
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) mills and merchants. We are also using 100% vegetable ink for all of our wet printing, this is helping us to become more environmentally sustainable and greener than ever throughout your orders, from pre-press to post production. At Genie we ensure all our products are either recycled or as environmentally friendly as possible, so naturally we make sure our production methods and packaging is as green and sustainable as is practical.
we regularly review our environmental impact
Happily embracing new technology to help improve our production, waste management, energy and water efficiency whenever we can. We aim to get the best use of all raw materials to keep any waste to a minimum. The vast majority of our products are not just made from recycled material, most are either
recyclable,
compostable or
biodegradable.
Any waste material that is produced, (including vinyls and plastics) is collected and recycled by
BPR Group, an authorised and regulated waste management company. In production we strive to get the best use of all raw materials and and to be as efficient as possible.
our carbon footprint
We source all our material from UK or EU suppliers. This not only keeps our
carbon footprint to a minimum but also ensures that our supply chain will always adhere to the latest UK & EU environmental and employment standards, and thus be treating people fairly while helping to look after the planet.
Where it is necessary to use virgin or non-recycled materials we will always endeavour to keep it to the minimum possible.
Recycled papers like Revive and Eco Kraft (the main paper brands that we use) deliver significant environmental advantages compared to non-recycled papers. Typically, the production of recycled pulp uses up to 70% less energy and at least 15000 fewer litres of water per tonne of pulp. Reusing waste paper instead of virgin wood fibre also helps to reduce pressure on natural forests and diverts waste paper away from landfill, helping reduce emissions of greenhouse gases like methane.
The Woodland Trust aims to improve the landscape of Britain by planting more trees and protecting our national heritage of precious ancient woodland. Its vision is a UK rich in native woods and trees enjoyed and valued by everyone and they work to deliver three guiding principles:
i) To enable the creation of more native woods and places rich in trees.
ii) To protect native woods, trees and their wildlife for the future.
iii) To inspire everyone to enjoy and value woods and trees.
The Trust looks after over 1,200 woodlands which have free and easy access for everyone to enjoy. With a member and supporter base of over 400,000 people its work and influence is growing year on year. Genie recognises the vital role that the charity plays in securing a sustainable future through trees, improving biodiversity and protecting the habitat of native wildlife.
The UK is one of the least wooded countries in Europe, with just 13 per cent tree cover compared to the European average of 44 per cent.
The Woodland Trust has established home-grown woodland creation projects that
offer companies the chance to mitigate their CO2 emissions.
At the same time, organisations will also be supporting projects that improve biodiversity, enhance social well-being, help the landscape adapt to climate change and ensure the UK is no longer one of the least wooded nations in Europe.
Woodland Carbon provides a strong external message but also has tangible outcomes, trees that can be seen and visited throughout the UK.
The Woodland Trust is a charity registered in England and Wales (No 294344) and in Scotland (No SC038885).
